Steinway Piano Gallery Ottawa is proud to sponsor this concert given by gifted Ottawa-born composer, pianist and cellist Anita Pari. Over the past several years, Anita has begun to establish herself as a dedicated and creative Canadian musician, both through her compositional work such as her four-movement cello sonata “Escape” and through her own performances of these pieces at the piano or cello. In the words of Dr. James Wright, Professor at Carleton University, Anita’s music “reveals multiple layers of interest and attractiveness for both the listener and performer.” Although composing is her main focus, Anita is also an accomplished performer who holds ARCT diplomas in both piano and cello. She has given solo recitals and appeared as a soloist with orchestras in Canada and internationally.

In her music, Anita is passionate about integrating her skill in performing with her compositional endeavours. Besides her own performances, several ensembles have interpreted her music, including the Cecilia String Quartet (“Nocturne for Strings”) and the Harmonia Choir (“Worlds Apart”). Her compositional output includes music for SATB and SSA choir, string quartet, cello/piano duo, piano/flute/cello trio, solo piano, and orchestra. Recently, she premiered her virtuosic solo piano composition “Urban Movement” in Beijing, a performance that has been described by Dr. Wright as “truly a tour de force.” This year, Anita plans to complete her Honours Portfolio in Composition under the supervision of Dr. Wright as well as a Graduate Demo CD featuring her own work.

She is currently a fourth-year BMus student at Carleton University, studying piano with Nicole Presentey, cello with Peter Rapson, and composition with James Wright. A suggested donation of $10-20 would be appreciated.
