IMPORTANT NOTICE: Course Dates are Wednesdays, September 25 - November 27, 2019. Eligibility:  this course is open to ages 16+ This 10-week introductory sign language course is designed for the student with no previous knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) or with limited basic competencies. Students learn to handle basic everyday communication in ASL incorporating Deaf culture and Deaf Community content. Topics centre on Getting to Know you, Exchanging Personal Information, and Discussing Living Situations. Grammar is introduced in context with an emphasis on developing question and answer skills. A “no-voice” teaching method is used to reinforce the learning experience. You'll learn through classroom instruction and role-play, as well as videotext and a workbook.

The videotext and workbook supplement and reinforce the classroom instruction so you can review, practice and retain what you learn. Our qualified Deaf instructors use Signing Naturally, a sign language curriculum that teaches both ASL and Deaf culture to help you better understand the communication needs of the Deaf community. IMPORTANT NOTICE: please register as soon as possible to avoid class cancellations due to insufficient registrations. In some cases, we may reduce the number of course hours to accommodate smaller registration numbers. We do this so that the course can continue for the benefit of our students’ progress. If there is a change, we will notify you. CLASS CANCELLATION PROTOCOL AND INCLEMENT WEATHER: Class Cancellation Protocol: notifications will be sent by email by 3 PM on the day of cancellation, with a request to acknowledge receipt.
In cases where an acknowledgement is not received, a follow-up phone call will be made. Please check email, voice mail and ensure that the office has your updated email and phone numbers.  If during your course, there is a class cancellation due to instructor illness, etc., you will be notified as per protocol and a make-up date will be added at the end of the schedule.  In cases of inclement weather, classes will go ahead as scheduled unless you are otherwise notified by the Canadian Hearing Society. If there is a decision to cancel, you will be notified as per protocol and a make up date will be added at the end of the schedule. It is up to you whether to attend a class that is going ahead.  A class missed by a student cannot be made up at any other time or in any other session.
Tutoring services are available by contacting the office and the fee is $50 per hour. How can I contact the organizer with any questions? Please contact [email protected] What's the refund policy?
