Abstract: Rainier Square Tower is a 850 ft tall "proof of concept" in Seattle for a composite structural frame, instead of a reinforced concrete core. This construction method has the rospect of reducing 40% of the time required to build a standard steel frame with a concrete core, with the overarching aim of ushering in an era of faster, safer, and better office-tower constrctuion everywhere. The key to the speed is a composite steel frame with a shear-wall core, consisting of a modular "sandwich" system of cross tied steel-plate walls, field-filled with concrete, with no rebar od any kind. The elimination of the concrete core eliminates curing time from the construction schedule. More than 500 modules will be used for in the construction of the tower.
