DATE:  November 16, 2019 9:00am to 6:00pm WHERE:  Elora Centre For The Arts 75 Melville St. Elora, ON SKILL LEVEL: All skill levels welcome – you just need to know the basics of ISO, shutter speed and aperture.  More than half of my personal portfolio has been accomplished with a single light. To be honest, those one light images are some of my personal favourites. This one-day workshop is an intense hands-on learning experience crafted to show you how to get the most from one light. Sure it can be handy to have more lights, but a single light used wisely can result in some pretty mind blowing images. I often hear of people who have attended portrait photography workshops and were forced to work in large groups or did not get enough time with lighting equipment - in this workshop I'll have enough lighting for everyone and the shooting groups will be kept small.

The main objective of this workshop is for participants to leave with new-found confidence and practical knowledge of how to use one light to it's fullest to create breathtaking portraits. Here are just a few of the topics we will delve into over the coarse of the day: -choosing the right light modifier for your desired results -balancing existing light with introduced light -how to achieve “high key” and “low key” results -how to make use of various existing light sources and use them as a “second light” -how to tame harsh light and introduce soft light -the importance of angle of light -how to convey mood and depth in your portraits -how to compliment existing light for a natural look -the importance of choice of focal length -how to create soft yet dramatic light ...
and much more...  After a short presentation and some in-studio demonstrations we will meet at a near by pre-determined location and participants will break into small groups to create their own images with provided models. I'll kick things off by doing a quick demonstration shoot on location and then I’ll be available to guide you and answer any questions you have as you put what you have learned into practice. I'll have two great photographers helping me out on this day as well, so there will always be help close by. Registration and Cost:   Cost for the One-day workshop : $375 + HST and Event Bright fees To sign up: registration done online via Eventbrite only. Please follow the above links and register directly on the Eventbrite page; spots must be paid in full online to be considered registered. Please note that workshop spots are non-refundable, but are transferable if you cannot attend (which means if you're able to find someone to take your spot, this is acceptable).
What do I need to bring? A digital slr camera with manual exposure capabilities is highly recommended. Please bring any lenses you own so that you have some flexibility in focal lengths and can experiment a little. This workshop is about on-location portraiture with one light - I understand that many people like to use their own lighting equipment and I welcome that, however, I will have plenty of lighting equipment on hand for you to use. This includes reflectors, off-camera flash systems, studio lights and light stands. Don't worry if you are not a lighting expert, this will be a fun and friendly learning environment. Please note that this workshop is not about the business of photography itself or post processing. The main objective here is to concentrate on the craft of portrait photography and make the most of using a single light on location and in studio.
I look forward to seeing you there and sharing my passion with you.
