We are excited to kick off the fall with Dr. Sandy Jung, a Psychologist, and Professor from Grant MacEwan University. Dr. Jung will be presenting on The Risky Business of IPV Prevention. Risk and threat assessments have become a core task for professionals in the criminal justice system to make offender management decisions.  Often the validation of risk assessment measures is executed with already-identified offenders who have been sentenced and/or incarcerated.  In the field of intimate partner violence, there has been a heavy focus on the treatment and management of domestic violence offenders.  At the frontline of this tertiary prevention process, are those professionals, namely police officers and social workers, who must make decisions about individuals whom they think are dangerous to their intimate partners, but often do not have the tools to effectively and accurately effect such preventative change.

In light of the constraints on police services in allocating resources to domestic violence calls and investigations, this presentation will introduce how empirical research can effectively inform law enforcement by maximizing positive outcomes, reduce further victimization, and prioritize the allocation of resources. Here is our agenda: 13:30 Welcome & Community Update 13:45 Presentation from Dr. Jung 14:45 Q & A 15:00 Conclusion
